Donnie Lawson and Dave Miller Lead Black Rock Winners

Things got back to normal, well sort of, at Black Rock as the six weekly classes helped to stage a great night of racing on a warm and sunny night in Dundee.

Donnie Lawson was dominant in the sportsman feature, leading the majority of the 20-lap event and scoring yet another win. Even though the Woodhull, NY driver has a commanding point lead in the overall standings, he needed this win to strengthen his position in the DIRTcar point standings.

Todd Henderson would not let Donnie pick up too many points though, as he was solid again, finishing in second. Fran Hilton won his heat and was a solid third. Brady Fultz and Craig Gardner rounded out a top-five comprised of the only feature winners at BRS in 2009.

Dave Miller showed how to get it done in the late model feature as he steadily pulled away from his son, Bruce over a late-race green flag run to pick up his first win at BRS.

The Millers dominated the show, and Mikey Wonderling was solid in third. Dave DuBois and Dale Welty kept things interesting in the championship battle as they each won a heat and placed fourth and fifth, respectively. DuBois now leads the standings by a point over Welty.

Jared Hill dominated the street stock feature to break a streak of terrible luck to finish the deal and pick up the feature win.

Hill, from Dundee, controlled the event and would hold off Chris Fisher, who rallied from a spin in the opening circuits and would drive back up to third. It was still a solid points night for the defending champion in the No. 37.

Carl Cleveland won his heat and would put together a quality finish in third. Point leader Frank Guererri was fourth and Ralph Champion Jr. rounded out the top-five in his first BRS start of the year.

Rich Sharpsteen II won his heat in the 4-cylinder division, which was nothing new. He won the feature as well, and that was a welcomed treat to the adult driver of the “Flyin’ X”.

Sharpsteen moved by Russ Wassner late in the feature and would make up a little bit of ground on Terry Povoski in the championship hunt. Povoski would finish in fourth in the event, keeping the ground gained by the Dundee driver minimal.

Between Sharpsteen and Povoski in the final finishing order were Brent Ayers and Dave Matwiejow in second and third, respectively. Wassner would slip back to fifth.

Erica Bell and Dylan Cecce both stayed hot in their respective classes, as they book ended the night in the Ladies 4-cylinder and bandit features.
