IMCA Empire State Series Kicks Off Memorial Day Weekend At Black Rock Speedway
DUNDEE, N.Y. – For Immediate Release – May 20th, 2015
As communities across the country prepare for Memorial Day Weekend, race fans are also preparing for one of the best weekends of motorsports both at their favorite tracks and on television. Black Rock Speedway will start your Memorial Day Weekend festivities with a regular card of racing plus the IMCA Modified Empire State Series.
The Empire State Series feature boasts a $500 first prize and guarantees $75 to start the feature event. A large field of IMCA cars are expected with some of the best in the New York and Pennsylvania area battling for IMCA supremacy. A $20 entry fee is required for IMCA competitors for this Friday night event that pays nicely throughout the finishing order.
Black Rock Speedway and I-88 Speedway have agreements in place from back in January that allows each track’s competitors to run at the neighboring track on nights when the Empire State Series is scheduled without taking any penalty in points at their home track.
This week’s action will award points for the Empire State Series along with State, Regional and National points for IMCA. Friday’s action will not award weekly championship points for Black Rock Speedway competitors. The current top five in points for the Empire State Series includes Eddie Sites, K.C. Cole, Chris Fleming, Brad Sites and Tyler Stoddard.
Last season, Matt Cole and Rich Karlnoski took home wins in the Empire State Series’ two trips to the ‘Fast Four-Tenths-Mile’ in Dundee. Black Rock regulars Keith Lamphere, Karlnoski, Jason Benjamin and Bobby Maynard will certainly play a factor on Friday night.
Brady Fultz picked up his first victory of the season last Friday in a rain-shortened event after an early season start that the Dundee, NY native might rather forget about. Wrong place at the wrong time has been the story so far for Fultz, but last week could be the turning point for their campaign in 2015.
Strong and consistent has been the key to Dale Welty’s success this season and he continued that success with his first win of the season last week. The Montour Falls driver has finishes of 4th, 9th, 4th and 1st to start the year and now only trails point leader Casey Pavlick by one point. Last week’s heat win also gives Welty a stat in every column we keep track of: wins, top 5s, top 10s and heat wins.
Chuck Winslow was able to put early season struggles aside and claim his first victory of the season on May 15th in the MRC Street Stocks. Even a late red flag that saw the 61 car’s engine temperature creep higher and higher couldn’t keep the Elmira driver out of victory lane. Point leader Jared Hill and CJ Guererri, who has had nothing but hard luck the last two weeks will be charging in search of their first victories of 2015.
Rich Sharpsteen and the Flyin’ X finally got back on track last week after having some uncharacteristic struggles. The win elevated the Dundee driver back into the points lead but the battle atop the points for the NAPA Know How 4 Cylinders is a good one with the top five drivers all within 10 points of one another. Is this the week that Scott Bradley or Rick Horton breaks through for a win?
Jeff Daugherty’s competition hasn’t yet found his kryptonite in 2015 in the Creekside Entertainment Bandits but two weeks ago Billy Bowers came oh so close. Bowers led laps 1 and 2 on May 8th, which are the only laps not to be led by Daugherty this season, but would lose the lead on lap 3. Bowers and Pixie Kinner will try their best to tame ‘The Rock’ this week and break Daugherty’s perfecto after having the week off last week.
