Several Black Rock Speedway Modified Drivers Needing To Get Back On Track
DUNDEE, N.Y. – For Immediate Release – May 8th, 2015
Weekly racing is back. The dirt modifieds are back. The race fans are making their way back to the track. Those have been some of the early season stories at the Black Rock Speedway so far in 2015. But some of the stories that are starting to stick out are the terrible luck of some of the speedway’s most prolific drivers.
‘The Hurricane’ Steve Paine has certainly been a name that has stuck out in the terrible luck column recently as the Waterloo, NY driver has yet to show his old form in the Swarthout Recycling 7x.
Week one saw the seven-time Black Rock Speedway Modified track champion get a piece of a Lap 1 crash suffering damage to the aero-dependent sail panel and quarter panel. Paine was not a factor that night finishing in 13th place.
Last week didn’t prove to have turned their season around either as Paine blew the rear end out of the famous 7x in his qualifying heat race. He would not make the call for the feature- sacrificing all points on the night and burying him in 19th position in points. ‘The Hurricane’ will look to regain his magic of the past on what is shaping up to see the biggest crowd of the season thus far.
Another driver that needs some luck to turn his way is that of Middlesex, NY’s ‘AJ Slideways’ Alan Johnson. Opening Night found Johnson in a backup Herbie Wright entry numbered 88J and saw Johnson bring home a tenth place finish. Not a bad start to the season but not the result the multi-time Super DIRTcar Series champion is accustomed to.
Johnson brought out his own #14J last week with Big Block power under the hood. However Johnson ‘s luck did not improve as the engine in the Friendly Ford ride expired in his heat race- sidelining him for the rest of the night.
It’s not often that you see two drivers of their caliber not even start the feature event, much less be contenders for the win. Paine and Johnson find themselves 19th and 17th respectively in points trailing leader Ron Cartwright Jr by 36 and 33 points- more than a full race for each driver.
The modifieds will be joined this week by the Crate Sportsman and point leader Casey Pavlick, the MRC Street Stocks and point leader Jared Hill, M&M Auto Sales & Service IMCA Modifieds and point leader Rich Karlnoski, NAPA Know How 4 Cylinders and point leader Rich Sharpsteen and last but certainly not least the Creekside Entertainment Bandits and point leader Jeff Daugherty.
This week is FREE General Admission night with donation of 4 canned food items for adults and 2 canned good items for seniors and youth ages 12-17 with kids under 12 always free at the speedway. Reminder that there will be no outside food or beverage allowed this week only.
