Kids Win Too In 2015; Jr. Fan Club Returns To 'The Rock'
DUNDEE, N.Y. - For Immediate Release - April 23rd, 2015
The most important race fan could be considered to be the young race fan- the future of our sport. Think back to the first time you ever went to the races as a kid. That first whiff of burnt race fuel, or maybe it was the first time the cars rushed into Turn 1 after taking the green flag? Maybe it was meeting your favorite driver in the pit area after the races to get an autograph on your favorite racing t-shirt?
For Penny Stone, bringing back the Jr. Fan Club to Black Rock Speedway is an important step in cultivating the new generation of dirt racing fans.
“This is a great program to get kids actively involved in the racing community. We have run this program at Chemung Speedrome and Wyoming County for years with success, and are thrilled Mike and Sue are letting us make this a part of the new era at Black Rock.”
The program is free for children under age 12, who will sign up with their parents each night at the Jr Fan Club booth at the speedway behind the grandstands prior to the heat races. One Jr. Fan will be drawn as the Jr. Fan of the Week. They will get a picture with their favorite driver on the front stretch as well as waving the green flag for their favorite driver’s feature. A special Jr. Fan Club flag station is being constructed at the speedway.
As an added bonus, the Jr. Fan Club will also participate in bicycle and backpack giveaways throughout the 2015 racing season. Several teams have already jumped onboard to donate bikes and interested race teams in donating additional bikes are encouraged to email Penny at Jrfanclub2015@aol.com call her at (607) 438-0852 or see her in-person at the Jr. Fan Club booth. The booth will be stocked with additional prizes, coloring contests and checkered flags for sale. You can also ‘Like’ Jr Fan Club on Facebook by navigating to www.facebook.com/jrfanclub2015
Along with the Jr. Fan Club, Black Rock Speedway Business Manager Sue Foster feels the order of events on a weekly basis will encourage fans of all ages to enter the pit area after the races to meet their favorite drivers.
“One advantage to running our Modifieds last is allowing our fans to get up close and personal with their heroes after the races. Everyone has a story about meeting their racing heroes- we hope our fans will make those memories at Black Rock this season.”
This Friday night the Modifieds return to Black Rock Speedway full-time for the first time since 2008. They will be joined by a stout field of Crate Sportsman competitors, $500 to win Street Stocks, M&M Auto Sales and Service IMCA Modifieds, NAPA Know How 4 Cylinders and Creekside Entertainment Bandits. Weekly Friday night racing kicks off at 7PM.
