GARY MONTGOMERY MEMORIAL OUTLAW SPEEDWAY FEATURE WINS GO TO MICHAEL MARESCA IN MODIFIEDS. QUINTIN BUCHANAN TAKES HOME CRATE SPORTSMAN WIN. BRETT CRAWFORD CLAIMS STREET STOCK’S. DANNY KERRICK VICTORIOUS IN HOBBY STOCKS AND MINI STOCK FEATURE GOES TO ZA

Story by Kenny Shupp Jr.

(Dundee, NY). One of the giants in northeast racing circles was honored this past Friday, May 22, 2026, at the Outlaw Speedway as the late Gary Montgomery Memorial was staged at the Yates County Facility.

Montgomery, whose career was well centered around Modified Racing particularly the Dirt Motorsports Organization, passed away several years ago after a battle with cancer and Outlaw Speedway owner/promoter, Tyler Siri continues to host a night at the track in his memory.

In Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Modified feature action it was 2025 Track Champion, Michael Maresca finally working his way to victory lane after an early season filled with poor draws and bad luck,

Tommy Paine and Bossman Tyler Siri would bring the field to the opening green flag for their 30-lap feature with Siri getting the jump in the early going.

Super Matt Sheppard who was looking to make it three feature wins in a row at Outlaw began the thirty-lap grind in starting position twelve.

Doctor Danny Johnson had problems in qualifying and was buried even deeper in the field lining up one row behind Sheppard in spot fourteen.

Defending Modified Track Champion, Michael Maresca of Baldwinsville, NY started eighth on the opening grid and methodically worked his way towards the front and once there was not about to have another feature win slip through his fingers as he picked up win one of the season.

Mr. Consistency, Tommy Collins of Groton, made an exceptionally good qualifying effort and began the main event in position five, but he had nothing for the high flying Maresca and had to settle for second.  Doctor Johnson was able to masterfully work his way through a stacked field of competitors and completed the podium finishing third.

Elmira’s Jeff Daugherty is having his best start to the season, and he once again carefully worked his way from the tenth starting slot to nail down the fourth finishing spot with Matt Sheppard completing the top five.

Maresca’s win comes just one week shy of his first trip to victory lane in 2025 during a season where he won three point paying shows and five overall during the entire “25” campaign.

With his win he now joins Alex Payne, Danny Johnson and Matt Sheppard as feature winners early in the 2026 season at the popular Yates County Facility.

Quintin Buchanan has been on a tear over the past week in Upstate New York Crate Sportsman action having picked up the feature win last weekend at Woodhull Raceway and backed up his win there with another brilliant performance on this night at Outlaw.

Watkins Glen native, Craig Gardner along with Beaver Dams young gun, Justice Mayo would lead the charge of the twenty-one- car field to the opening green for the classes twenty-five lap feature event.

Buchanan would line up third on the grid and after disposing of then race leader Mayo he would go on to a one second victory in claiming his first win of the year and in doing so backed up his August 1 victory in 2025.

Mayo would settle for second at the double checkers with Scott Torbit advancing from fifth on the starting grid to complete the podium.

Former Sportsman Track Champ AJ Lloyd nailed fourth at the finish after starting eighth with Daryl Krebs grabbing another top five finish advancing from ninth at the start.

Buchanan can add his name to the growing list of 2026 feature winners which includes the likes of Peet, Chillot, Parsons, and Guild with the latter pair of drivers along with Buchanan all chasing the coveted Outlaw Speedway Crate Sportsman Track Title.

It has been a while since Brett Crawford won a feature and for the multi-time Woodhull Raceway Street Stock Track Champion it seemed like an eternity since committing to full time Outlaw Speedway competition a few years ago.

The Corning, NY native has struggled through car problems forcing the team to purchase a newer machine last season and things have turned around with better feature finishes and on this night Crawford was able to put all the pieces together in dominating fashion as he nailed the feature win in the Swarthout Recycling Street Stock Division.

Lining up on the pole position for the twenty-lap Main, Crawford led from start to finish in the green to checkered run claiming the three second victory of Eli Mangriarelli who claimed his second podium finish in as many weeks as he continues to improve in the Schyler Family Racing 57j machine.

Jerry Lobdell Jr. continues to be a picture of consistency at Outlaw finishing third after starting sixth on the opening grid.

One-time 2026 Street Stock feature winner, Willy Easling finished right where he started claiming fourth with three-time 2026 feature winner, Jimmy Grant rounding the top five.

For Crawford it was a well-deserved win after struggling mightily over the past few seasons giving credit to his teams never give up attitude as he added his name to a growing list of Swarthout Recycling Street Stock feature winners including Grant, Easling and Glenn Whritenour.

Danny Kerrick of Stanley, NY came into the night with three feature wins and a close second last week after suffering his first loss of the 2026 campaign at the hands of Marc Minutolo on a last lap pass.

On this night, the third gen pilot was not going to be denied another trip to victory lane as he powered past then race leader, Jesse Balance at the halfway mark of the Addison, Corning, Hornell, Wellsville NAPA twenty-lap feature and go on the win four on the season.

Balance of Corning along with Meadow Dgien of Cameron Mills would bring the thirteen-car field to green with Balance taking command from the start before being overhauled by Kerrick who started in lucky spot number seven.

Once in front Kerrick had to withstand a barrage of caution flags between laps ten and fifteen, but that would not stop him from finding victory lane over a hard charging Jared Hill who would have to settle for second.

Completing the top three podium finishers was Penn Yan’s Brighton Grant who continues to impress.

Rounding out the top five at the drop of the checkers were Ballance and Dgien who both back slid from their front row starting positions, but solid finishes none the less.

With his victory Kerrick has now won four out of five and extended his point lead in his quest to back up last season’s NAPA Hobby Stock Track Title.

In MR Grafix twenty-lap feature action a pair of Elmira, NY natives in Michael Dickerson and Kenneth Evans would bring the twenty-car field to green with Evans getting the jump and leading until lap eleven when he would be overhauled by last season’s Mini Stock Track Champion, Zach Daugherty and from there the soon to be Elmira High School Graduating Senior would not look back in claiming his first feature of the year.

Coming into the night, Craig DeCamp of Beaver Dams was on a tear winning all three previously run Mini Stock feature events  and lining up right behind Daugherty at the start he came through traffic glued to the back bumper of Daugherty, however Daugherty was not going to be denied a trip to victory lane on this night bringing DeCamp’s undefeated season to an end with Daugherty crossing the finish line with a comfortable second and a half victory.

Kenneth Evans had a great night leading over half of the twenty-lap affair but had to give way to the lead duo but still claimed third at the finish.

Branchport’s Jayson Smart started eighth on the opening grid and moved into fourth at the finish as he was chased across the line by Kevin Greenfield who completed the top five advancing from thirteenth at the start.

Congratulations to all competitors.
