MICHAEL MARESCA PUTS EXCLAMATION POINT ON 2025 SEASON AT OUTLAW SPEEDWAY WITH HIS HUGE $7,777.77 PAYDAY IN HOAG MEMORIAL MODIFIED 40 LAP FEATURE
Davie Franek (ESS), Dillon Paddock (CRSA), Payton Talbot (Crate Sportsman), Glenn Whritenour (Street Stocks), Daniel Kerrick (Hobby Stocks) and Willy Easling (Mini Stocks) all victorious during the two-day event that drew a record 336 entries.
Story by Kenny Shupp Jr.
(Dundee, NY) It was an aggressive two-day event at the Outlaw Speedway as tenth year track owner/promoter, Tyler Siri saw his popular Dundee, NY facility draw a record number of cars and packed grandstands as perfect fall weather welcomed the 14th Annual Hoag Memorial.
Friday night, October 17 found the Empire Super Sprints taking center stage with the winner of the twenty-five lap A Main walking away with $4,000.
In addition to several ESS 360 faithful that follow the series, numerous CRSA 305 Sprints were also in attendance pushing the total car count to fifty for the night of action.
Davie Franek of Sussex, NJ once again showed his mastery of the Fast 4/10 of a Mile Oval in claiming the $4,000 pay day over Josh Hansen and DJ Christie.
For a more detailed look at the entire ESS portion of the two day Hoag Memorial including all qualifying Heat and B Main winners along with contingency and bonus awards, ESS Public Relations Specialist, Curtis Berleue offers a concise wrap-up of all the action and his full report can be found by going to www.empiresprints.com.
The 4 Cylinder Mini Stocks featuring a mixture of both front and rear wheel driven creations were also on the Friday Night card.
A solid field of twenty-four machines checked in for the $1,777.77 to win, twenty- lap feature and like he has done so many times in the past, Beaver Dams, NY speedster, Willy Easling put on another driving clinic in picking up the huge pay day.
For Easling and his car owner, Codie Morehouse it backed up their recent victory in the 4 Cylinder feature event at the recently held Fulton Outlaw Weekend.
Easling wrestled the top spot away from three-time 2025 Outlaw Speedway Mini Stock feature winner, Craig DeCamp on lap eight and from there had to hold off DeCamp after a lap fourteen re-start to pick up his fourth win of the 2025 campaign in just five starts.
DeCamp settled for second while Woodhull Raceway standout, Teddy Morseman completed the podium in the Friday night thriller.
Blake Snyder nailed fourth with former class Track Champion, Scott Lehman completing the top five finishers.
Wrapping up the Friday leg of the two-day Hoag Memorial affair were Front Row Dash Qualifiers for Saturday’s feature events in three classes.
In Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Modified action a pair of fifteen-lap heat events found Elmira’s Jeff Daugherty along with former Rochester native and now Phelps resident, Doctor Danny Johnson picking up the wins and locking them into the front row.
Knapp and Schlappi Lumber Crate Sportsman drew a huge crowd of some thirty-seven drivers all looking to secure their place in Saturday’s thirty-five lap feature with fifteen-lap qualifiers going to a pair of heavy weights in Crate Sportsman competition as Tyler Peet of Lake Ariel, Pa. and Payton Talbot of South New Berlin, NY came away victorious.
Finally, the Swarthout Recycling Crane Service Street Stocks took to the Fast 4/10 of a Mile Oval, and it came as no surprise that Glenn Whritenour and Jimmy Grant finished one/two in their lone qualifier putting them squarely in the front row for Saturday’s Hoag Memorial Empire 50.
All qualifying winners pocketed a nifty $250 for their efforts.
Saturday morning dawned with overcast skies and some light precipitation, however the skies cleared by noon and Mother Nature blessed the packed pit area, infield and grandstands with picture perfect, tee shirt weather the remainder of the day and night.
Kicking off Day 2 of the 14th Annual Hoag Memorial was qualifying heat and consolation events for the 192 machines that checked in for the five high dollar feature events.
Michael Maresca has had what many will consider a career season in 2025 picking up three regular season feature finishes in route to the $10,000 to win Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Modified Track Championship.
Maresca then garnered one post season victory on September 12 in the $6,500 to win MacMillian Memorial setting him up as the man to beat in the Modified portion of the Hoag Memorial.
After successfully qualifying in his opening afternoon heat race, Maresca lined up inside row four in the forty-lap feature as Jeff Daugherty and Doctor Danny Johnson would bring the twenty-five car field to the opening green flag with Daugherty getting the jump and leading the first three circuits before the first yellow flag would slow the pace on lap three.
On the re-start, The Doctor of Modified Racing would make a house call wrestling the lead away from Daugherty and hold onto the top spot until he would slow on the track with a flat tire on lap twelve ending any hopes of picking up the win.
For The Doctor it would be the fourth flat rear tire he suffered while leading a feature event at the Yates County Speedway in 2025.
On the re-start, Tommy Collins, who began the event in fourth found himself at the point as he would lead until lap seventeen when Maresca assumed control and from there go on to the $7,777.77 pay day.
Once in clean air Maresca just had to encounter one final yellow flag slow down on lap thirty-two which put Collins on his rear bumper for the final seven lap sprint to the checkers, however MM was just too much to manage as he cruised to the popular win.
Tommy Collins capped off a significant effort with a solid runner-up finish with 2025 Modified second place point finisher, Bobby Varin completing the podium after lining up fourteenth on the opening grid driving for track owner, Tyler Siri.
Jeff Daugherty capped off a great weekend of competition, crossing the line in fourth while Ronnie Davis Jr. making a rare Outlaw Speedway appearance rounded out the top five.
Sixth went to third generation competitor, Kreg Crooker who wrapped up his sophomore season piloting the Brent Cross machine with another third-generation racer, Erick Rudolph claiming seventh advancing two spots from his original ninth starting slot.
Eighth place went to Woodhull’s Stacy Jackson piloting the Brad and Kim Herrington 358 Small Block with August 29, 2025, winner and former Hoag Memorial victor, Pat Ward coming from eighteenth to ninth driving one of a trio of Siri Motorsports entries.
Completing the top ten was Thunder Mountain regular and frequent visitor to Outlaw Speedway and former feature winner, Nick Nye.
If you are into the numbers game, Michael Maresca won from position seven driving car number 7mm in claiming the $7777.77 pay day!
The CRSA 305 Sprint’s made their first appearance as part of Hoag Memorial Weekend, and the Mike Emhoff led group produced some forty plus machines for the day’s action.
After all group time trialing, qualifying Heat and B-main events were into the books it was time for their thirty-lap feature and it all came down to the top two competitors in class as Dillon Paddock was able to fend off newly crowned 2025 CRSA Point Champion, Zach Sobotka as the pair were able to hold relentless pressure from Friday night’s ESS 360 Sprint winner, Davie Franek who completed the top three podium.
Another pair of CRSA standouts in Billy VanInwegan and former series Champ, Jordan Hutton completed the top five.
For a lap by lap, concise wrap-up of the entire CRSA 305 Sprint Show including post-race bonuses, CRSA Public Relations Director and Series Announcer, Marty Czekala has a full report which can be found by going to www.crsasprints.com.
The win for Dillon Paddock was worth $4,000.00, one of the largest winning payouts in the 20- year history of the CRSA Organization.
Payton Talbot came, he saw, and he conquered the $5,077.77 to win, $577.77 to start Knapp and Schlappi Lumber 602 Crate Sportsman thirty-five lap feature.
By winning the Friday night Front Row Dash Qualifiers, Talbot and arch rival Tyler Peet brought the full field of twenty-four machines to the opening green flag with Peet getting the early jump and leading the first three circuits before Talbot motored by on lap four taking command and never looking back in claiming his first Outlaw Speedway Hoag Memorial Victory.
With only three yellow flags to slow the pace Talbot was able to keep Peet at bay after making his eventual winning pass as the pair of invaders were able to hold off a late race rally by track regular and August 29 feature winner, Tim Guild of Rathbone, NY.
After picking up a win in his earlier afternoon qualifying heat race, Guild drew starting spot four and took full advantage of his up front starting position to hold off former Outlaw Speedway Hoosier Tire Track Champion, Zach Sobotak who came from eighth to finish fourth and for Sabotka it wrapped up a very aggressive weekend where he competed in three classes of competition.
Outlaw regulars Daryl Krebs, Cayden Lawson, Blake Parsons, Dale Welty and Josh Nobriga finished in positions five through nine with 2024 Sportsman Track Champion, Carter Crooker completing the top ten after picking up a ride for the day in the Adam Taft Racing 13 machine.
Glenn Whritenour and Jimmy Grant were the class of the field all season long in the Swarthout Recycling Crane Service Street Stock Division and it was only poetic justice that the pair of class heavy weights would bring the field of twenty-four competitors to the opening green for their $2,777.77 to win, $277.77 to start Empire 50 lap feature grind.
Whritenour would enter the day with eleven feature wins during the 2025 campaign with Grant, the only other class feature winner trailing with four trips to victory lane.
GW would get the jump over Grant off the opening green flag in an event that produced only two caution flags with those coming on laps thirty and thirty-three.
Throughout the early going, Whritenour was able to keep safe distance between himself and Grant until former Empire 100 winner and Outlaw Track Champion, Dylan Cecce entered the picture piloting the Brett Crawford machine and kept a steady bead on the race leader.
Willy Easling struggled in qualifying and had to start the feature buried mid-pack in thirteenth, however he was able to make some nifty moves coming through traffic and was rapidly closing on the lead duo of Whritenour and Cecce, but time ran out and that is just how they finished as the cream definitely came to the top in this one.
Mike Wonderling, part of the famed Scio Connection, recently secured the driving duties of the potent Schyler Racing machine, a car he has driven successfully in the past prior to full-time commitment in the RUSH Crate Late Model Division.
Wonderling put on a steady drive in what will be a full-time effort for the Schuyler Family in 2026 by claiming fourth as Grant drifted in the late going but still completed the top five.
Joe Giardina capped off a great 2025 season leading the charge of the next group of five across the line as he was chased there by former Outlaw Speedway Track Champion and 2025 Land of Legends Street Stock Champ, CJ Guererri who finished seventh.
Thunder Mountain regular, Jerry Lobdell Jr. is always a threat whenever he visits Outlaw Speedway and finished eighth with Rick Crego and Damian Long rounding the top ten.
For Whritenour it completed what many will consider his best season in racing, winning a record twelve features just at Outlaw plus another five wins at Woodhull running a limited schedule.
Last but certainly not least, Addison, Corning, Hornell, and Wellsville NAPA Hobby Stocks were on track for the final feature of the weekend as a field of thirty-three entries had to be whittled down to a twenty-four-car feature starting field for their twenty-lap feature event.
Recently crowned 2025 Outlaw Speedway Hobby Stock Track Champion and third generation driver from Stanley, NY Daniel Kerrick put an exclamation point next to his name along with Mile Maresca and Glenn Whritenour as he too picked up a Hoag Memorial class feature win along with a track title.
Kerrick would lead from start to finish in picking up the win and the $1,777.77 paycheck, however nothing comes easy in life as he had to fend off relentless pressure from Hobby Stock veterans in Marc Minutolo and Frank Burnell to claim the victory.
As the double checkered rags waved ending the 14th Annual Hoag Memorial, Kerrick was able to hold off Burnell who had to settle for the runner-up spot with Jerry Lobdell claiming third.
Jimmy Grant, doing double duty on the day, would come home fourth with invader, Brian Rhodes completing the top five.
From there it was a rush of invaders as Damon Decker, Harry Marvin, Josh Towner and Jason Rhodes would finish in spots six through nine.
2024 Outlaw Hobby Stock Track Champion, Jeredd Dennis made a one-off return since going into semi-retirement finishing tenth piloting the Meadow Dgien machine.
Congratulations to all competitors.
