OUTLAW SPEEDWAY BARELY BEATS THE RAIN IN GETTING JUST THEIR THIRD SHOW INTO THE RECORD BOOKS THUS FAR IN 2025

Michael Maresca (Modified) and Chris Fisher (CS) both grab first feature wins of the season.  Glenn Whritenour remains perfect with three in a row (SS).  Marc Minutolo (HS), Jason Smart (MS) and Kolston Decamp (Bandits) all double up.

Story by Kenny Shupp Jr.

Dundee, NY. With an on and off light rain and drizzle throughout most of the night of action, Outlaw Speedway owner, Tyler Siri and his staff were under the gun to try and push the May 30, 2025 event through as once again the fans and drivers were treated to an ultra-fast and smooth racing surface.

In the Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Modified Division, Mike Maresca has been fast in the past two events run at the popular Yates County Oval, but poor starting positions have hampered him from finding victory lane even though he did have a runner-up finish to opening night winner, Bobby Varin as well as a fourth place run on May 16.

However, on this night Maresca drew outside the second row to begin the thirty- lap feature with Elmira’s Jeff Daugherty and Daniel Johnson from Middlesex leading the twenty-two- car field to the opening green with Daugherty immediately jumping out to a half straight away advantage.

The first of two yellow flags would wave on lap seven for a disabled machine on the front straight and on the re-start, Daugherty would once again open a commanding lead.

By the halfway mark, Mike Maresca had caught Daugherty and a classic battle ensued with Maresca trying everything to pass the high -flying Daugherty and it was the second and final caution on lap twenty that allowed Maresca the opportunity to make a clean pass of the race leader and go onto his first feature win at Outlaw in 2025.

Once in front Maresca was able to stretch his advantage and when the double checkered flags waved, the Potsdam, NY native had a comfortable advantage over Jeff Daugherty who had his best run of the 2025 campaign.

Tommy Collins lined up sixth on the opening grid and, like he has done so many times in the past very quietly worked his way into the top five and at the finish was a solid third completing the podium.

A pair of legends in the sport completed the top five with Phelp’s, NY native, The Doctor Danny Johnson advancing one position from his original starting spot from fifth to fourth while The Hurricane Steve Paine of Waterloo had a solid effort lining up seventy on the opening grid and followed Johnson throughout the thirty-lap main to finish fifth.

For Mike Maresca it was a big win as he now has solidified his position at the top of the point standings and the $10,000 that goes along with winning the season long point battle as Outlaw Speedway will now flip the calendar and begin the month of June on Friday the  6th.

Twenty-seven Knapp and Schlappi 602 Crate Sportsman checked in for the night of competition requiring four qualifying heat races and come feature time it was May 16 feature winner and Penn Yan veteran,  Karl Comfort lining up on outside of the front starting row as young lady competitor, Kennedy Payne from Canandaigua would start on the pole and lead the charge into turn one after the opening green flag for the twenty-five lap feature.

Comfort would immediately show his muscle in taking control of the event with Payne in tow, but all eyes were on Chris Fisher who wasted little time in disposing of Payne and AJ Lloyd and set sail on the race leader.

Three yellow flag slow downs would keep the field bunched up in the early going with the first coming on lap four with the second caution flag flying on lap five.  The third and final yellow waved on lap nine, however it was the lap five caution that would be Comfort’s undoing as Fisher was able to get by and hold off Comfort as the two titans in the division would finish one/two.  AJ Lloyd put on a steady performance lining up third and holding on to complete the top three podium finishers.

Opening night winner, Donnie Lawson of Addison would line up ninth at the start and in one of his methodical performances moved nicely through traffic to claim fourth while Brent Ayers of Dundee would hound Lawson the entire twenty-five lap distance to round out the top five glued to the rear bumper of Lawson throughout the entire feature.

A solid fifteen car Winner’s Circle Deli Mini Stock feature would see much attrition with several competitors knocked out prior to the halfway mark of their twenty-lap A Main event.

Chris Davis of Dundee along with Prattsburg native Mike Ayer’s would bring the field to green, but it was opening night winner and former Outlaw Speedway Track Champion, Jason Smart who stole the show and from his inside row three starting spot wasting little time getting to the point and walking away from the remainder of the field in claiming win two on the season.

Michael Dickerson would dog Smart the entire distance, but he would have to settle for second while another Outlaw Speedway Track Champion, Scott Lehman is back in full time action after a few seasons off as he would nail third at the finish.

The Nature Boy, Mike Stone, like Smart and Lehman is also a former class Track Champ as the Campbell, NY resident lined up seventh on the grid and moved forward to finish fourth with the 2024 Bandit Champion, Zach Daugherty now in his rookie year with the Mini Stocks completing the top five.

Mr. Smooth, Marc Minutolo of Phelps has issued a challenge early in 2025 as the multi-time Outlaw Speedway NAPA Hobby Stock Track Champion backed up his May 16 feature win with the veteran full-fender competitor picking up win two on the campaign.

Minutolo was able to work past front row starters Daniel Kerrick and Mike Stone and go on to the victory in the Addison, Corning, Hornell, Wellsville NAPA sponsored class and after having to finish second in the 2024 Track Championship battle Minutolo looks to be in great shape thus far in the early part of the “25” season.

Third generation pilot, Daniel Kerrick who hails from Stanley hung on for a solid runner-up finish at the double checkered flags with Jesse Ballance, Jared Hill and Nate Peckham completing the top five finishers.

Glenn Whritenour continued his dominance in the Swarthout Recycling Street Stock Division as the Jasper native would line up outside the front starting row and from there go on to win three on the season and remain undefeated in Outlaw Speedway Street Stock action.

Jimmy Grant, who began the twenty-lap feature lined up right behind Whritenour had to settle for yet another runner-up finish as he would chase Whritenour across the line as the pair of veterans would finish one/two with 2024 Track Champion, Gene Sharpsteen completing the podium.

Fourth and fifth were claimed by Willy Easling of Beaver Dams and Campbell’s Tony Harris driving the Schuyler Family Racing Machine.

Earlier in the night the Fritz Masonry Youth Bandit Division took to the Fast 4/10 of a Mile Clay Oval to compete in their traditional ten lap feature and it was Kolston DeCamp remaining perfect on the 2025 season as he back-ed up his May 16 victory with another trip to victory lane.

Kassitie Clugstone finished second as she was followed across the line by Danica Hall and Connor Crane.

Congratulations to all competitors who took part in the May 30, 2025 night of action and a special shout out to all track employes and drivers who all put their best foot forward to get the entire show into the books prior to heavy rains which occurred right at the end of the show which was completed in just three hours with some ninety-seven cars checking in for the night of action.

Coming next Friday, June 6, 2025 at the Outlaw Speedway it will be another FAST 5* Show featuring all the weekly divisions as well as the Youth Bandits.  In addition, the track will host the first of two, 1 on 1 Spectator Races, with the winner taking home $500 for their efforts.

The Swarthout Recycling Street Stocks will race for an added winner’s share of $1,313 to claim victory in the Gene Dupuy Memorial Event.
