Outlaw Speedway Roy Silvers Memorial finds Bobby Varin (Modifieds) and Glenn Whritenour (Street Stocks) doubling up early in 2025

Karl Comfort wins Crate Sportsman, Mr. Smooth, Marc Minutolo takes home winner’s check claiming his first Hobby Stock feature of the season, Willy Easling bags Mini Stock laurels and Kolston DeCamp takes home Youth Bandit feature victory.

Story by Kenny Shupp Jr.

(Dundee, NY) After what seemed like an eternity of inclement weather which has already raised havoc with the early part of the 2025 schedule at Outlaw Speedway, the weather gods finally looked down on the Friday night, May 16, event at the historic Yates County Facility and fans were treated to absolutely perfect weather conditions and with a fast and wide 4/10 of a mile oval the racing was phenomenal.

After two consecutive weeks of rainouts, The Annual Roy Silvers Memorial would see twenty-five Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Modifieds checking in for the first official point night of the year with everyone looking to take home $3068 first place check and potentially stake their claim to the $10,000 to win Modified Point Championship.

By the luck of the re-draw, last season’s Modified Track Champion, Alex Payne along with Bobby Varin would bring the thundering heard to green with Payne getting the early jump and moving out to a full straight away advantage.

Just as Payne was about to enter lap traffic the first of three caution flags could wave slowing the pace and bunching the field.

The second yellow flag flew on lap eleven and once back in action Bossman Tyler Siri assumed the top spot after lining up fifth on the opening grid.  Siri would set a torrid pace, but he was reeled in by 2022 Modified Track Champ, Ajay Potrzebowski Jr., however his tenure at the point would last just a lap as Siri would move back around and retake control.

The third and final caution flag waved on lap eighteen and by this point Varin had recovered from an earlier event situation and was flying around the top of the banking and it was on lap twenty-two that the Johnstown, NY speedster would assume control after moving around Siri and from there never looking  back.

Varin would remain uncontested during the closing circuits and go on to claim win two of the campaign backing up his April 18, 2025, victory.

After leading early, Alex Payne would nip Siri at the line for the runner-up spot with Bossman Tyler Siri completing the podium.

A poor pill redraw found Mike Maresca lining up eleventh on the opening feature grid, however like is has in the past at Outlaw Speedway, Maresca put on a masterful performance to claim fourth while Elmira speedster, Jeff Daugherty completed the top five feature finishers advancing a pair of spots from his original seventh starting position.

Multiple time Outlaw Speedway Street Stock Champion, Glenn Whritenour of Jasper along with Willy Easling would lead the charge of the fifteen-car starting field in the Swarthout Recycling Stret Stock twenty-lap feature event.

Whritenour would immediately flex his muscle and take control of the event that would see just one lone caution flag with that coming on lap three.

With GW in complete control all eyes were on the fight for the runner-up spot as a slew of heavy weights would duke it out including the likes of journeyman competitor, Jerry Lobdell Jr. of Freeville, 2024 Outlaw Speedway Track Champion, Gene Sharpsteen, along with Penn Yan’s Jimmy Grant as well as Easling of Beaver Dams and when the double checkered flags waved over the stacked up field it was Whritenour nailing the win and the $1568.00 winners take.  Jimmy Grant would advance from seventh to claim second with Lobdell Jr. finishing right where he began the event in third.

Sharpsteen would move up one position from his original fifth starting spot on the opening grid with Willy Easling completing the top five.

Like the Mighty Modifieds, twenty-five Knapp and Schlappi Lumber 602 Crate Sportsman would make the opening bell for their twenty-five-lap feature, and it would be youth versus veteran as many times class Track Champion, Chris Fisher along with George Schweigart who is in his second full season competing at Outlaw would bring the field to green.

Fisher would immediately open a commanding advantage over Schweigart along with a star-studded field including former Track Champ, Karl Comfort as well as a pair of second-generation drivers in Connor Brown and Tim Guild.

Only two yellow flags would slow the pace with the first on lap eight.  On the reset Fisher would once again show his dominance, however Karl Comfort had moved into the runner-up slot after starting sixth and with Fisher now in heavy lap traffic he was able to cut into Fisher’s lead.  Comfort would take over the lead on lap twenty-one and just one lap later and in super heavy lap traffic, Fisher and the third place running AJ Lloyd made incidental contact while trying to move past a lap car sending both into the infield grass and ending what appeared to be top three finishes.

On the restart Comfort had clean air and just three laps to hold off perhaps the fastest car on the track in the closing laps as invader, Payton Talbot was now on Comforts rear bumper and looked poised to pick-up his first ever Outlaw Speedway Sportsman feature, however Comfort was able to hold on for his first trip to victory lane in 2025 with Talbot finishing second.  Completing the top three podium finishers was Woodhull’s George Schweigart who had his best Outlaw Speedway feature finish as he was chased across the line by Dundee native Brent Ayers with Josh Nobriga completing the top five after starting fourth at the opening green flag.

For King Karl it was a $2,068 payday for claiming the Roy Silvers Memorial.

Multi-time Addison, Corning, Hornell, Wellsville NAPA Hobby Stock Track Champion, Marc Minutolo would take full advantage of his pole position starting spot in dominating the twenty lap Hobby Stock A-main.

After being upended in the 2024-point battle, Mr. Smooth would show his prowess behind the wheel while at the same time staking his claim to the 2025 Outlaw Speedway NAPA Hobby Stock Track Title as he took home the Roy Silvers Memorial check for $1068.00

Third generation pilot, Daniel Kerrick would advance one position from his third starting spot to claim second at the double checkers with Dundee’s Jared Hill moving forward from fourth to complete the podium.

Rich Sharpsteen nailed fourth at the finish with Jessee Balance rounding the top five.

2024 Winner’s Circle Deli 4 Cylinder Mini Stock Champ, Willy Easling looks poised to back up last year’s championship run as he began the twenty-lap feature inside row three, blast by the competition and go on to win one on the season and a $1,068 payday.

Mike Dickerson would finish in the runner-up position ahead of a pair of former Mini Stock Track Champions in Scott Lehman who was third while The Nature Boy, Mike Stone of Campbell would finish fourth after lining up eighth.

Jeffery Moore would complete the top five.

The Fritz Masonry Youth Bandits made their first appearance of the season and in their ten lap feature it was Kolton DeCamp finding victory lane followed by Kassitie Clugstone, Danica Hall and third gen pilot Connor Crane who completed the field.

Congratulations to all competitors!

Coming up next at Outlaw Speedway on Friday, May 23, 2025, the RUSH Crate Late Model Touring Series will make their lone appearance of the year as many of the top teams in the northeast will converge on the Yates County Oval all looking for the $4,000 to win Gary Montgomery Memorial.

Also, on the track it will be Fast 5* Show of all the regular weekly classes that compete at the facility.

Throughout the week heading up to the Montgomery Memorial, numerous postings will be made at www.Facebook.com/OutlawSpeedwayLLC/ including gate and start times, ticket prices, photos, statistics, ticket give-a-ways and much more.
