OUTLAW SPEEDWAY LOSES SEASON OPENING LUCAS OIL NATIONALS FOR THE THIRD STRAIGHT YEAR TO INCLEMENT WEATHER
Story by Kenny Shupp Jr.
(Dundee, NY) Tyler Siri of the Outlaw Speedway tries each season to open on the first weekend in April with the Lucas Oil Nationals hoping that if the weather cooperates, he will hit it out of the park as no other tracks in the region open that early in the season.
“In the ten years that I have been here I have always tried to get the jump on the season by opening early and giving everyone a chance to race in early April. Some years we have received very favorable weather, but the past three years in early April we have not been very luck as Mother Nature has had other ideas. We will regroup and come back next weekend with the Cal Lane Memorial Spring Nationals.” That is according to Outlaw Speedway owner/promoter. Tyler Siri.
Losing the Lucas Oil Nationals marks the third straight year that Outlaw has not been able to get the show into the books, however drivers were able to use the Friday, April 4, 2025, leg of the two-day Lucas Nationals to shake their mounts down with an Open Test and Tune on the Fast 4/10 of a Mile Clay Oval and several teams turned out to take full advantage of the track time.
“We knew were going to be in trouble with Saturday’s program with threat of an all-day rain. Consequently, I scratched the Front Row Dashes and just used the night as Practice for anyone that wanted to show-up. It worked out very well as a lot of drivers showed up and it also gave my track preparation crew a chance to make sure the surface was in good shape for the remainder of the season.”
With the rainout it sets up another two-day weekend event at Outlaw with the running of the Annual Cal Lane Memorial Spring Nationals with practice and Front Row Dashes on Friday Night April 11 and then a full-blown program of qualifying events and features on Saturday, April 12, 2025.
Friday’s events will go off at the regular 7:00 pm race time, however Saturday’s program will be staged at 3:00 pm so plan your time accordingly.
For those who cannot attend the Saturday portion of the Cal Lane Memorial you can watch on Pay Per View as the April 12 event is one of nine remaining shows that will be televised throughout the 2025 season. Log on at www.thecushion.com for more information.
