CAL LANE MEMORIAL SPRING NATIONALS SET FOR OUTLAW SPEEDWAY ON APRIL 11-12, 2025

Practice goes off on Friday, April 11 with Front Row Dash Qualifiers for Saturday’s Cal Lane Memorial presented by Lane’s Yamaha of Watkins Glen, NY.

The Saturday portion of the two-day event is to be telecast on The Cushion!

Story by Kenny Shupp Jr.

(Dundee, NY) The Lane Family of Dundee, NY have a rich history at the Outlaw Speedway.  Brothers Calvin and Malcolm Lane barnstormed the historic Yates County oval for decades dating back to the mid 1960’s when Cal was the man to beat as the six cylinder coupes and “bugs” were the top division in the Upstate New York Region.

Better known as “Swivel,” Cal Lane was not only a top-notch driver, but he was also a fan favorite with adults and kids alike.

“I have heard all the exceptional stories about Calvin.  He was really the guy to beat back in the day and the fans just loved him.  I got to know him later in his life and he was such a gentle human being.  He was always around Outlaw Speedway in the pit area visiting with all the drivers and crew members and he had a terrific memorabilia business.  It was a shame when we lost him.”  That is according to Outlaw Speedway owner, Tyler Siri.

Historically the Outlaw Speedway has provided plenty of exciting Sprint Car action and because of its long straights and fast corners the machines rocket around the 4/10-mile clay oval at breakneck speeds and 2025 promises to be one of the best seasons yet when the wonderful, winged Empire Super Sprints  visit the track for the first of multiple trips in “25”.

Former Outlaw Speedway ESS Feature Winner, No Panic Davey Franek will lead the charge of many of the top 360 Sprint Car pilots in the northeast, however he will have his work cut out as the two time and defending ESS Champion, Jordan Porier will be there along with the likes of Jared Zimbardi, Jordan Thomas and many more.

Like the high-powered Empire Super Sprint Tour 360’s which will make their first of four trips to Outlaw Speedway racing for a top spot of $4,220. Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Modifieds will also be on the Spring Nationals card with the feature winner taking home a check for $4,220.  A huge car count of the Mighty Modifieds is expected at Outlaw Speedway for the event as many high-profile drivers have committed to making Outlaw Speedway their Friday night race place in 2025 with the season point champion claiming a whomping $10,000.

Track owner, Tyler Siri, will have no less than three Modified entries ready for the Spring Nationals for himself along with hired guns Bobby Varin and Stacy Jackson with all three picking up feature wins in 2024.  It was also recently announced that Doctor Danny Johnson will return to Outlaw in 2025 along with 2024 Track Champion, Alex Payne as well as 2022 Track Champ, Ajay Potrzebowski.  Several other standout Modified drivers including the likes of Tommy Collins, Jim LaRock, Kreg Crooker, Brady Fultz along with 2023 Track Champion, Corey Costa as well as multi time Outlaw Track Champ, The Hurricane Steve Paine will try and protect their home turf from any outside invaders.

Also, on the Cal Lane Memorial Spring Nationals card the Knapp and Schlappi Lumber American Racer Tire Sportsman Division will slug it out for a winner’s check of $2,220.

With 2024 Sportsman Track Champion, Carter Crooker making the move into the Modified Division at Outlaw this season the flood gates will open for any potentially new blood to step up and take control of this super competitive form of competition.

The NAPA Hobby Stock Class as well as the Winners Circle Deli 4 Cylinder Mini Stocks will see the winner taking home a check for $1,220. The 220 is symbolic with the number that Cal Lane ran throughout most of his illustrious career.

2024 Hobby Stock Track Champion, Jeredd Dennis has stepped away from full time competition which means that multi time Track Champ, Marc Minutolo could once again show his muscle in a class that he has well dominated since its inception at Outlaw.  However, time will tell as the competition gets tougher every year.

Crate Late Models will make their first appearance of the season at Outlaw Speedway with the victor taking home a check for $3,000.  A large contingent of the full fender CLM are expected to be at Outlaw including former Track Champ, Chad Homan as well as many other pilots from across the region.

The RUSH Crate Late Model Touring Series will return to Outlaw Speedway on Friday, May 23 for $4,000 to win Gary Montgomery Memorial.

The two- day Cal Lane Memorial Spring Nationals presented by Lane’s Yamaha event gets underway on Friday, April 11 with practice along with Dash Qualifying events which set the front row for all classes that will see action on Saturday night.  Then on Saturday, Outlaw Speedway owner/promoter, Tyler Siri will swing the gates for the Cal Lane Memorial which will find a full program of qualifying heat, consolation and feature events.

Tentative start time for Friday’s activities is 7:00 pm with the Saturday leg of the two-day event set to go off at 3:00 pm with the Saturday portion of the Cal Lane Memorial to be telecast by Pay Per View on The Cushion.
