LUCAS OIL NATIONALS SET TO ROLL OFF AT OUTLAW SPEEDWAY ON SATURDAY, APRIL 8, 2023
Open practice and Dash Qualifiers will be run the night before on Friday, April 7, 2023
Story by Kenny Shupp Jr.
(Dundee, NY) After dealing with the COVID 19 Pandemic in 2020 along with a rain filled 2021, last season at the Outlaw Speedway brought near perfect weather all season and with a mild winter track owner, Tyler Siri is very optimistic that the season opening Lucas Oil Nationals will be a great way for the Yates County oval to begin its 66th year of race action.
“In 2020 we never even got started until early June due to New York State Mandates surrounding COVID and when we did get rolling all we ran was regular weekly shows with no special events. In 2021 with things back to normal we were able to get the Lucas Oil Nationals into the record books, but we had seven washouts during the regular season along with a rain shortened Fall Nationals weekend in September. Last year was the direct opposite as we had a drought and very few washouts. This past winter was open, the facility has dried quickly, and we are ready to roll for our season opener.” That according to Siri.
Saturday, April 8 is the date for the annual season lid lifter with the Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep Ram Modifieds winner picking up a handsome, $3500 for the win. The Sunrise Insulation American Racer Sportsman along with the Speed Connection DIRTcar Hoosier Tire Sportsman will each race for $1,750 to win their respective feature events. Crate Late Models will run for a hefty $2,000 to win. The winner of the Stan’s No Tubes classy looking Street Stocks will collect $1,750 while the Winner’s Circle Deli Mini Stock and the NAPA Hobby Stock feature winners will both pocket $1000 each. The all new Swarthout Recycling Rookie Sportsman winner will receive a check for $400.
Last year the Lucas Nationals was one of only a few events lost to Mother Nature, so everyone including Siri is excited to get the season off and running.
The track will have open practice on Friday, April 7 with any cars welcome to test and tune for the upcoming night. There will also be Dash Qualifying Events for all classes to set the front starting rows for the April 8 Lucas Oil Nationals.
“The Dash Races on Friday Night have been well received by many of the racers. Most of them are here practicing anyhow, so we will run qualifying events for all classes to set things up for the following night.”
It is anticipated that many of the cars and stars that will be competing at this year’s Lucas Oil Nationals will be at Outlaw on Friday night, April 7 for an open test and tune session.
Gate openings and ticket prices for both pit and grandstand entry for the Lucas Oil Nationals Weekend on Friday and Saturday, April 7 and 8 will be posted on Facebook.
Camping is free all weekend along with free rides on the track’s monster truck, Outlaw Crusher.
The Outlaw Speedway Saloon will be open in the pit area which includes a terrific view of the track from the top observation deck.
The Turn 4 Tavern located on the grandstand side of the facility will also be open for the season lid lifter.
