Hoag Memorial Outlaw 50 Modified Full Results
Everyone involved in racing knows the name Dutch Hoag. He is a legendary figure, and he was an absolute threat to win ANY race that he was in, at any time, on any track with any surface. Dirt or asphalt. He is a five time winner of the prestigious Langhorne National Open and the only racer to do it on both dirt, and asphalt.
Dean Hoag was a standout Supermodified racer in his own right, and former owner of what was then Black Rock Speedway when Tyler Siri purchased it, and changed it to Outlaw Speedway.
Hoag Memorial Weekend honors the memory of these two legends, and the crowd that ignored the false weather warnings were treated to phenomenal racing by some of the best damn drivers in the business.
Since The Bossman purchased Outlaw there has been just one repeat winner of the Dutch Hoag Memorial/Hoag Memorial, and that was Steve Paine who went back2back winning the 2018 and 2019 features. The thing that stands out about that feat is that Paine won both in the same season as the 2018 version was run in April of 2019 due to Mother Nature.
That fact alone is a testament to just how difficult it is to win marquee races at Outlaw. Eight years, six different winners, and one virus putting a hold on the event in 2020. 2023 was no different in that a new name will forever adorn the history books as having won one of the most hard-fought races to win.
A stacked and jacked field of 24 cars took Ray K's green flag, and the winner had visited Outlaw Victory Lane during the Steve Kent Memorial Summer Nationals in July, and his P14 starting spot gave no worries to anyone who knows 'North Country Nasty' can wheel, and methodically work his way to the front.
Mike Maresca was able to slowly pick off cars and take advantage of a midway tangle between leader Will Shields and Alex Payne. It appeared that Payne thought that he was clear of Shields on a restart, as Payne came across the front of the 82s of Shields, and the two were locked together bringing out the caution.
Maresca inherited the lead, and was never bested, winning his second huge feature of the season in the Weaknecht Archery, St Lawrence Radiology 7mm Bicknell.
Danny Johnson knows his way around the fast 4/10 mile oval, and started in P21. After some fancy footwork and ruthless aggression, Johnson was able to finish second. It is the second time this season that Johnson finished second to Maresca in a marquee race as he did it at Summer Nationals as well.
Stacy Jackson piloted the Herrington owned 21 to his best finish in a modified at Outlaw this season starting in P8 rounding out the podium.
The Bossman Tyler Siri last visited The Lane at Outlaw during the Dutch Hoag Memorial in 2021, and brought his small block 5* home in fourth from P13.
Rounding out the Top Five was Ron Cartwright Jr in the 2b from P11.
Modified Track Champion Cory Costa looked to be well on his way to another marquee win leading 15 laps early, but his 02 mount had other ideas and Costa exited the race on Lap 22 with a broken rear end.
