STEVE KENT SUMMER NATIONALS UP NEXT AT THE OUTLAW SPEEDWAY
Friday, July 28, 2023 event to see return of the Empire Super Sprints along with the ULMS Super Late Models to the Famed Yates County Oval. The Friendly Modifieds make it a rare treat for fans to see all three major forms of racing on the same card.
Story by Kenny Shupp Jr.
(Dundee, NY) After a one week lay off for fans, drivers and employees to enjoy time away from the track, Outlaw Speedway owner/promoter, Tyler Siri will come roaring back with the Annual Steve Kent Memorial at the track.
Kent of Elmira, NY was a main stay at the facility as a driver, car owner and race fan for years and Siri traditionally holds the Summer Nationals event in his memory.
On this year’s July 28, 2023 card it will be the return of the Chris Zuver led ULMS Super Late Models after a successful 2022 engagement.
The victor in the ULMS feature will walk off with a handsome $5,000 for their efforts.
After an earlier season washout, the famed 360 Empire Super Sprints will be back at the Fast 4/10 of a mile clay oval to do battle and for ESS it will be the first time since they last competed at Outlaw with Joe Trenca taking back- to- back wins on September 20 and 21, 2020. Other previous ESS Outlaw Speedway winners include Lucas Wolfe, Danny Varin, Mark Smith, Chuck Hebing, Dylan Westbrook and Jonathan Preston.
The ESS tradition of racing at Outlaw Speedway dates back to August 3, 1984 when Len Krautheim picked up the first ever ESS show staged at the popular and historic Dundee, NY facility.
During the Black Rock Speedway era under the track ownership of Lin and Cindy Hough, the track along with Bully Hill Vineyards and SP Wilson all joined forces for the 360 Sprint Fall Nationals which at that time was one of the most revered events in 360 Sprint Car racing drawing some of the biggest names in the sport.
Also, on the card of events for the night the Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Modifieds will compete for a winners share of $3500, the same dollar amount as the ESS Sprints.
The Sunrise Insulation American Racer Tire Sportsman will compete for $1,750 to win. The NAPA Hobby Stocks as well as the Brock’s Bowl and Pizzeria Street Stocks will both race for a winner’s check of $1,000.
It will be full points for all of Outlaw’s weekly divisions that will be in competition for the night.
Gate times for both pit and grandstand entry as well as all admission prices will be posted in advance on Facebook.
In addition, all other important information regarding the July 28 show including any weather-related matters as well as free ticket give aways can be found at www.Facebook.com/OutlawSpeedwayLLC/.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have ULMS back at Outlaw for the Summer Nationals, stated Outlaw Speedway owner, Tyler Siri. Chris Zuver has been running ULMS for decades and he knows how to attract cars to his events. The fans will not be disappointed in their performance.”
Siri then went on to say, “This track has a configuration that is perfect for Sprint Cars and Late Models. Both those classes have cars that are lightweight with rocket engines, and they will just fly around this place. It isn’t very often fans get to see Late Models, Sprints and Modifieds all on the same card.”
Fans are encouraged to come early to the July 28 event as quality parking and seating spots will be at a premium as Outlaw Speedway is traditionally packed for the Steve Kent Summer Nationals.
Camping is free all weekend as well as complementary rides on Outlaw Crusher, the tracks Monster Truck.
For those that arrive at the track parched, a pair of watering holes await with the Turn 4 Tavern in the grandstand seating area along with the Outlaw Tavern located pit side with both offering a large selection of iced cold beer. And oh, yes feel free to toss the peanut shucks on the ground!
