Story by Kenny Shupp Jr.
(Dundee, NY) After a busy month of June which included The Dave Machuga Memorial Short Track Super Series Night as well as the traditional Fireworks Extravaganza, Outlaw Speedway will change the calendar to July and open the month on Friday, July 7, 2023 with a Regular Super 7 Show along with King of the Fast 4/10 One-on-One Street Stock competition.
In addition, the CRSA 305 Sprints will be returning to the night of action after a June 16 rainout at the Yates County oval.
“The weather has not been all that favorable this year, stated Outlaw Speedway owner/promoter, Tyler Siri in a recent conversation. April was terrible with plenty of rain and cold temperatures. May was the opposite with no rain and hot weather which we can deal with, however June has not been all that great with unsettled weather and not a day where showers or an all-day rain in not in the forecast. I’m in hopes that July will bring more seasonable weather with plenty of sun and warm weather and we are going to kick the month off in a big way with a Super 7 Show, Boys and Girls Club Night, one-on-one races for the Brock’s Bowl and Pizzeria Street Stocks and I’m bringing back the CRSA 305 Sprints.”
Siri and the fan base of the Outlaw Speedway love sprint car racing on the Fast 4/10 of a Mile Speedway with multiple visits throughout every race season by the highly popular ESS 360 Sprints along with a pair of visits from the Tony Stewart owned Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions 410 Sprint Car Series. The CRSA 305 Sprints were placed back on the 2023 schedule, but lost their show earlier to Mother Nature, but they will return to the July 7 card of events.
“The 305 Sprints will bring a bunch of cars to Outlaw. This class is continuing to grow in popularity as both young guns and seasoned veterans find the competition as well as the price tag much to their liking” That once again according to Siri.
The CRSA 305 Sprints have likewise lost some shows to rain in the early part of the 2023 season and the drivers are hungry to get to Outlaw Speedway.
Steve Ovens, who handles the announcing and PR Duties for the CRSA 305 Sprint Tour is no stranger to Outlaw Speedway having grown up at the facility watching his legendary father, Stu Ovens compete at the old Dundee Raceway Park claiming the 1979 Street Stock Championship and he looks at the return of the 305 Sprints as a big night at the historic Yates County Speed Plant.
“Outlaw is the perfect size for the CRSA 305 Sprints. It is not necessarily a huge half or five eighth’s mile, but the configuration is fast and wide allowing for multiple lanes of racing. The guys that follow this series are everywhere from teenagers to men who formerly had great careers in 360 Sprints or Modifieds and now they have found a place in this series where they can still be competitive without the high price of fielding a competitive full blown 410, 360 or Modified.”
Ovens then went on to say that “Fans will be amazed with the close competition that this class offers. Without huge horsepower, the crews find themselves faced with correct chassis adjustments on ever-changing dirt racing surfaces and drivers must decide on the proper tactics as momentum is everything in this highly competitive division. You just never know if it will be a young guy like Jordan Hutton or veterans like Darryl Ruggles, Bobby Parrow or Jeff Trombley. Even lady driver and local favorite Kirsten Dombrowski will have an equal chance to bag the win.”
