CAL LANE MEMORIAL SPRING NATIONALS SET FOR OUTLAW SPEEDWAY ON APRIL 14-15, 2023

Practice goes off on Friday, April 14 with Front Row Dash Qualifiers for Saturday’s Cal Lane Memorial presented by Lane’s Yamaha of Watkins Glen, NY.

Story by Kenny Shupp Jr.

(Dundee, NY) The Lane Family of Dundee, NY have a rich history at the Outlaw Speedway.  Brothers Calvin and Malcolm Lane barnstormed the historic Yates County oval for decades dating back to the mid 1960’s when Cal was the man to beat as the six cylinder coupes and “bugs” were the top division in the Upstate New York Region.

Better known as “Swivel”, Cal Lane was not only a top notch driver, but he was also a fan favorite with adults and kids alike.

“I’ve heard all the wonderful stories about Calvin.  He was really the guy to beat back in the day and the fans just loved him.  I got to know him later in his life and he was such a gentle human being.  He was always around Outlaw Speedway in the pit area visiting with all the drivers and crew members and he had a terrific memorabilia business.  It was a shame when we lost him last year.”  That according to Outlaw Speedway owner, Tyler Siri.

Historically the Outlaw Speedway has provided plenty of exciting Sprint Car action and because of its long straights and fast corners the machines rocket around the 4/10-mile clay oval at breakneck speeds and 2023 promises to be one of the best seasons yet when the wonderful winged Empire Super Sprints  visit the track for the first of multiple trips in 2023.

Like the high-powered Empire Super Sprint Tour 360’s which will race for a top spot of $3,000, the Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Modifieds will also be on the Spring Nationals card with the feature winner taking home a check for $3,500.  A huge car count of the Mighty Modifieds is expected at Outlaw Speedway for the event as many high-profile drivers have expressed interest in making Outlaw Speedway their Friday night race place in 2023 with the season point champ claiming a whomping $10,000.  Also, on the Cal Lane Memorial Spring Nationals card the Stan’s No Tubes Street Stocks will race for a sweet $1,200 to win.  Both the Sunrise Insulation American Racer Tire and the Speed Connection Hoosier Tire Sportsman Divisions will slug it out for a winner’s check of $1,750. The NAPA Hobby Stock Class as well as the Winners Circle Deli 4 Cylinder Mini Stocks will see the winner taking home a check for $1,000. The upstart Swarthout Recycling Rookie Sportsman Division goes for $400 to win their feature event.

The two- day Cal Lane Memorial presented by Lane’s Yamaha event gets underway on Friday, April 14 with practice along with Dash Qualifying events which set the front row for all classes that will see action on Saturday night.  Then on Saturday, Outlaw Speedway owner/promoter, Tyler Siri will swing the gates for the Cal Lane Memorial.

All gate, hot lap, start times and admission prices for both nights will be posted at www.Facebook.com/OutlawSpeedwayLLC/.
