3RD ANNUAL GARY MONTGOMERY NIGHT AT THE OUTLAW SPEEDWAY ON FRIDAY, MAY 31 PRESENTED BY DOUG GROSS CONSTRUCTION
Sweeney Rush Late Model Touring Series to highlight the night of action along with bicycle give-a-way.
(Dundee, NY) A man that was synonymous with racing all over the Upstate New York State Region will once again be honored as the 3rd Annual Gary Montgomery Memorial event will be held at the Outlaw Speedway on Friday, May 31, 2019. The popular Yates County speed plant closes the month of May with the running of the Sweeney Chevrolet, Buick, GMC Rush Late Model Touring Series in conjunction with a Super 6 Show and the second in a series of bicycle give-a-ways held throughout the year.
“Gary Montgomery was a pretty special man, claimed Outlaw Speedway owner, Tyler Siri. He had a very big presence where ever he went either as a top notch announcer, track manager, or series promoter. He was Glen Donnelly’s confident when at the Dirt Motorsports Organization and later went on to promote his own series, the BRP Can AM 360 Late Model’s. It is a privilege for us to again honor his legacy with a night named in his behalf.”
After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Montgomery passed away in November of 2016 and left behind a loving family that will be invited back to the Outlaw Speedway to help present the trophy to the winner of the Rush Late Model feature event. In 2017, Canisteo, NY native and long time 360 Late Model and Crate Late Model competitor, Bryce Davis claimed the victory over a stellar field of drivers many of whom competed in Montgomery’s 360 Can Am Series. Davis is currently focused on Super Late Model competition, however you can be certain that when the Vicki Emig and Mike Leone led Rush Late Models make their return voyage to the Outlaw Speedway they will bring along many of the top names that compete in the series all looking to get their hands on the prestigious Gary Montgomery Memorial Trophy. Last year’s winner of the 2nd Annual Montgomery event was Mr. Excitement, Jeremy Wonderling. The youngest member of the famed “Scio Connection,” Wonderling will be back to defend his 2018 win. In addition Wonderling was also the 2018 Rush Late Model Series Champion.
Former Track Champion and longtime Outlaw Speedway sponsor, Larry Knowles along with his wife Janice as well as their staff of Doug Gross Construction in Painted Post, NY will be back at the track to sponsor the 3rd Annual Gary Montgomery Memorial. It will also be a homecoming of sorts for two other members of the Knowles family as both Racin’ Jason and Pork Chop Brian Knowles will be in competition as both are regulars in the Sweeney Rush Crate Late Model Series.
In addition to the Sweeney Rush Late Models in competition it will be the Friendly CDJR Big Block/Small Block Modifieds, the Sunrise Insulation American Racer Tire Crate Sportsman along with the classy Stan’s No Tubes Street Stock Divisions. Rounding out the night of action it will be the DIRTcar Hoosier Tire Crate Sportsman, 4 cylinders, the Marion Decker Insurance sponsored Hobby Stocks and IMCA Modifieds.
