(Dundee, NY) – $2,500 in winner’s purse money was on the line this past weekend at the Outlaw Fall Nationals for the IMCA Modified competitors, and a total of forty-nine teams filled the pit area between Friday and Saturday night.

Friday saw twenty-six competitors qualify for the twenty-five lap A-Main.  Michigan’s AJ Ward made the long tow to Outlaw Speedway, in search of finishes that would help his points tally in the regional and state standings before IMCA points locked in on Sunday the 25th.

Ward would take care of business on Friday night, dominating the race from his front row starting spot, alongside Pennsylvania’s Jake Maynard who traveled back from school in Ohio to compete in Dundee, NY.  Ward simply cruised away, leaving the rest of the field to battle for second on back.

That battle would be a good one all the way through the top five as Maynard had an incredible battle with Matt Cole, Beau Ballard, Keith Lamphere, Tony Harris and ‘The Wizard’ Tim Sebring.  Two, three and nearly four-wide racing kept the crown entertained, as the IMCA contingent showed just how good a race this division can put on week in and week out.

As the race wore on, Matt Cole proved he had a race-winning car, but just never had track position to show it.  Cole started in the seventh position and worked his way into the top five by lap eight.  From there, Cole spent the next eleven laps clawing his way to the second position.

Unfortunately for Cole, that is where he would stop forward progress as Ward dominated for the victory.  Cole finished second, ahead of Beau Ballard in third, Keith Lamphere fourth and Tim Sebring rounding out the top five.

On Saturday night, twenty-three cars checked in for the thirty-five-lap Empire State Series event that paid out $1,500 to the winner.  Cole and Ward once again found themselves at the front of the field- but this time it was Cole coming out on top.

Ward would finish the weekend with a win and a second place finish Saturday, accomplishing the mission his team set out to complete at the Fall Nationals.  Both Cole and Ward qualified themselves for the 2017 Supernationals ‘Fast Shafts Invitational’ voting ballot, which sees fans vote for the drivers who will compete in this special event in Boone, IA.

The rest of the top five finishers from the Empire State Series event included Lamphere, Brandon Smith and Rodney Morgan.
