(DUNDEE N.Y.)- Business owner and Modified driver, Jim LaRock has been behind the wheel of dirt cars since he was just 16 years old. His interest in racing was sparked from his uncle; LaRock used to travel with him to Fulton Speedway and Rolling Wheels Raceway in Weedsport, and he has been hooked on it ever since.
The 41-year-old driver started out behind the wheel of Enduro racecars at Rolling Wheels and Canandaigua. He had some experience driving Sportsman in his career, and moved up to Modified about 8 years ago.
For LaRock, racing is just something that he finds fun to do on the weekends. He likes Outlaw Speedway because racing on Friday's leaves the rest of the weekend open to do other things.
Outside of the track, he owns his own business, LaRock Logging & Firewood in Seneca Falls, NY. He promoted his business through the interview, “I live right on 318, right up the road from where they’re building the new casino, so if anyone’s interested, give me a shout!”
While having a tough season so far, LaRock was asked in an interview, what positives do you take from a tough season like this?
“You just have to take every weekend you can, as long as the car’s not wrecked at the end of the night is the biggest thing,” LaRock explained. “You just got to keep working at it, eventually it’ll come to you. I used to get a little uptight before, but now I’ve calmed down, eventually something good will happen.”
LaRock has a season-high finish in the competitive Modified division of an eighth place, back on Friday June 3rd.
