(DUNDEE, N.Y.) – This Friday night at Outlaw Speedway will see double features for the Street Stocks and see the Crate Late Models take the night off as they have a RUSH tour event at Freedom. But the importance of Friday’s special event and sponsor will be huge.
Representatives from the D.A.R.E. Program and the Yates County Sheriff’s Department will be on hand to promote their program that directly interacts with the local school districts in Yates County to educate and steer our youth away from drugs and alcohol. They will have a booth set up just inside the main grandstand gates with several educational opportunities and activities such as fingerprinting for the kids in attendance.
Drug Abuse Resistance Education, known as D.A.R.E., launched in 1983 through the Los Angeles Unified School District as a substance abuse prevention education program. In partnership with police officers, parents, and schools nation wide, it continues to grow rapidly and many schools in the U.S. take part in the D.A.R.E. program with their elementary and middle school aged students.
In 45 to 60 minute classes, students interact with a D.A.R.E. certified police officer to learn about the dangers of tobacco, alcohol, and drug use, and how to resist the peer pressure that comes with them all. The program also works to prevent and raise awareness about bullying, and all of the negative effects that come with it.
With the ever growing drug problem facing our society these days, having the D.A.R.E. program and a night dedicated to education and prevention couldn’t be more important. The entire staff from Outlaw Speedway wishes to thank the representatives from the D.A.R.E. program and the local county Sheriff’s department for their participation in this great event.
