For Immediate Release – May 22nd, 2016 –
(Dundee, NY) – It was a long night in Dundee on Friday night. A big swing at cutting dust down, from what was seen the previous Thursday, saw an abundance of water laid down on the racing surface at Outlaw Speedway.
The level of moisture in the surface delayed the show for one hour and fifty minutes, setting the entire night back which was set to see the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints join a regular card of racing. The fans managed their best during the delay, which didn’t go unnoticed by first-year Outlaw Speedway owner/promoter Tyler Siri.
“I take 100% responsibility for this delay and the late night,” said Siri in Victory Lane at the conclusion of the thirty-lap Outlaw Spring Nationals. “I really appreciate the fans sticking it out and I assure that this will never happen again.”
Siri had mixed emotions, as he was able to cash in on the $3,000 pay day in the Friendly Dodge and Ford Big Block/Small Block Modified feature during the rescheduled Outlaw Spring Nationals.
Siri went away from the pole position after the pitside redraw and would jump out to the early lead in the event. But he would once again have to hold off the advances of Westfield, PA pilot Billy Van Pelt.
Van Pelt was on a rail using the top lane to perfection- even taking over the lead mid-race from Siri. But a restart in which both drivers seemed to fire simultaneously, allowed Siri to reclaim the lead for good as he went on to score the victory.
The driver from Horseheads, NY now puts his Superior Crushing, Outlaw Speedway No. 5* in line for a potential bonus of $25,000 if he can win the Outlaw Fall Nationals and Dutch Hoag National Open. If Siri can win one of those two remaining races, he will take home a partial bonus of $12,500.
Van Pelt slid back to as far as fourth on a poor restart, but charged back to second at the double checkers. Alan Johnson continues his hot streak with a podium finish. Ron Cartwright Jr finished fourth and Derrick Podsiadlo has now started his season with two top five finishes.
The Super Gen Products Grit Racing Series took the green flag for their thirty-lap American Racer Series event and it was Elbridge, NY driver Rob Humphreys taking not only his first Outlaw Speedway win- but also his first career Grit feature win.
Humphreys took the lead early on and was able to weave through the lap traffic the best to get the victory. Humphreys said of the victory, “I love coming here as much as I can with my work schedule. A run like tonight makes us want to come back even more.”
Donnie Lawson led laps and swapped the lead several times with Humphreys, but ultimately had to settle for the runner up spot. Dale Welty has two podium finishes in a row, while Casey Pavlick drove to fourth from winning his consi. Connor Brown flat drove the wheels off his No. 87, as he would finish in the top five after taking a “Buy In” spot just to make the feature field.
The IMCA Empire State Series twenty-five lap feature event saw one caution fly right on the initial start of the race, but that would be all. With twenty-four cars taking the green flag, the IMCA drivers put on a fabulous show for the fans.
It was James Cornell who would take the lead just before halfway and cruise away to his first Outlaw Speedway win of 2016. Cornell was dominant late in the race, extending his lead to more than a straightaway in lap traffic. Nobody had anything for Cornell’s No. J3 on this night.
Matt Cole charged to second late in the event in a great battle with Eddie Sites and Brad Sites who finished third and fourth, respectively. Jake Maynard made his first Outlaw Speedway start of the season and brought his No. 69 home with a top five finish.
Mark Smith raced his way to victory in the twenty-five lap Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints. Smith is a sprint car ace from the central to southern Pennsylvania area and showed off his skills to claim the win.

Steven Perkins III claimed his first victory of the 2016 season on Friday night as the Winners Circle Deli Bandits started the night’s action off. Perkins led from the drop of the green flag and went unchallenged in getting his first career Outlaw Speedway victory.
Outlaw Speedway apologizes to the Steven Perkins crew as he was unable to hold victory lane ceremonies post-race as the event was rushed forward, after starting so late in the evening. This Friday night’s show will begin with Perkins having the opportunity to fulfill victory lane requirements.
In an effort to not keep everyone at the track until sunrise, the Crate Late Model, Creekside Entertainment Street Stock and Four Cylinder features will be made up over the next two Friday nights. Stay tuned to www.outlawspeedwayllc.com for scheduling and official feature lineups.
