For Immediate Release – March 18th, 2016
(DUNDEE, N.Y.) – We are now just five weeks away from starting Chapter 1 of the new era at Outlaw Speedway and owner/promoter Tyler Siri is proud to start this new era with a big splash. Not only will this be his first race at the helm of the four-tenths-mile located in Yates County, it will see a return to tradition when Steve Kellogg drops the first green flag on Friday April 22nd at 7PM.
For years, the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints made either an April or May trip to Outlaw Speedway to either start or compete in an event early on in their yearly campaign. 2016 will see the stars and cars of the Empire Super Sprints return once again to an early spring show in Dundee to help celebrate a new beginning for the speedway.
ESS first competed at Outlaw Speedway on August 3rd, 1984 in a race won by Lenny Krautheim III. Even as dominant as Mike Woodring was in his time racing the ESS tour, it is none other than "Mr. ESS" Mal Lane who holds the record for most wins at his home track with 6. There have been a total of 64 ESS events held on the Dundee dirt, with the last taking place back on July 18th, 2014 when Jared Zimbardi spanked the field enroute to one of his many Outlaw Speedway wins.
"We have put together a very aggressive schedule and wanted to come out for 2016 with a pretty big splash," said first-year owner Tyler Siri. "Bringing in ESS just made sense to make that splash along with a big Modified show. It's a show fans in the area will be talking about all year long."
The aforementioned Big Block/Small Block Modifieds will compete in the first leg of the Insinger Performance/Sunoco Race Fuel Outlaw Challenge. This $3,000-to-win, $200-to-start feature joins the Outlaw Fall Nationals and Dutch Hoag National Open as the triple crown races offering a $25,000 bonus to the Modified driver that can win all three. If that driver wins two out of the three Outlaw Challenge races, a partial bonus will be paid out.
Tyler and Jordan Siri will lead the Modified brigade into the 2016 season in what will be the most diverse Modified field you will find on a Friday night in the area. Jordan will embark on his rookie season in the Modifieds after some impressive Modified appearances in 2015- including a top five finish his first time out. The Five Mile Point Crate Sportsman champion will be one to watch as he continues to develop with added horsepower between the frame rails.
Chris Gennarelli and his driver 'The Doctor' Danny Johnson will be making house calls in 2016 at Outlaw Speedway which will be paying $2,000-to-win and $200-to-start on a weekly basis. Gennarelli's team has put up a $500 award for the Modified driver that wins the most feature events this season.
17-time Woodhull Raceway Modified champion Billy Van Pelt has committed to starting the season at Outlaw Speedway as well. Van Pelt, from Westfield, PA picked up a huge win last season at "The Rumble At The Rock" and has a lot of laps around the clay oval- winning a track championship at Outlaw back in the late 90's.
Brady Fultz, Ron Cartwright Jr, Donnie Lawson, Derrick Podsiadlo and Joe Dgien will lead the local contingent which will give the top dogs a real run for the their money this season. Although Lawson and Podsiadlo didn't make a mark in the win column in 2015, both were dangerously close on several occasions.
More driver announcements are expected in the coming weeks, stay tuned to OutlawspeedwayLLC.com for more information leading up to Opening Night.
The rest of the racing card on Friday April 22nd will include the Crate Sportsman division, where Casey Pavlick will make his first start for Mashewske Motorsports in the No. 117. Pavlick is going for three-in-a-row in 2016 for Crate Sportsman track championships.
The Crate Late Models are new to the weekly fold this season, offering $750-to-win for the division sanctioned by the RUSH Dirt Late Model Series. Several of the area's top Crate Late Model stars plan to make Outlaw Speedway their RUSH Friday night home including Frank Guererri Jr, John Waters, the Knowles brothers Jason and Brian and even some of the Wonderling boys who have been rumored to be making the tow to Outlaw.
The IMCA Modified division will race again under the IMCA banner at Outlaw Speedway in 2016, racing for $500-to-win weekly. Although it is unknown whether or not two-time and defending track champion Keith Lamphere will return to go for the three-peat, there is a stout group of drivers including Todd Stone, Brad Smith and Scott Sebring that could take the torch from 2015's Northeast champ.
Jared Hill is coming back to Outlaw Speedway looking for more wins in 2016, after winning his first track title last season in the speedway's tightest points battle with CJ Guererri in the Creekside Entertainment Street Stocks. Guererri comes back for his second full year at Outlaw with a fire in his belly after winning his first career Empire 100 last October. These two will face off with competitors like Gene Balmer, Chuck Winslow, Jeremy Trank who returns to the Street Stocks in 2016, rookie Jayson Smart, Jake Karlnoski and 2015 Rookie of the Year Allison Teed.
It's still unknown whether the 4 Cylinder track champion Rich Sharpsteen will return to defend his 2015 track championship. The Dundee native announced at the January banquet that he would return, but since then had talked as if the steering wheel was going to get temporarily put on the shelf. Drivers like Joe Povoski, Erica Bell, Chad Ayers and Jarod Brown will certainly factor into the mix in this division for the upcoming year.
Jeff Daugherty has made the jump to compete with the adult 4 Cylinder division in 2016, meaning there will be a new champion in the Winner's Circle Deli Bandit division this year. Veteran Bandit driver and 2015 Sportsmanship award winner Pixie Kinner is expected back, with several other local drivers expected to enter the division this season. Several of the top finishers in the division: Daugherty, Billy Bowers, ShiAnn Labar and Brandon Kinner all have reached the age where they will be moving up to the adult division to compete. On April 22nd, a fresh crop of Outlaw Speedway's future dirt track demons will be unveiled.
