For Immediate Release – March 17th, 2016
(DUNDEE, N.Y.) – Before the cars even hit the track, fans have had enough to talk about and bat back and forth in regards to the upcoming season at Outlaw Speedway. Tyler Siri and crew are hard at work making improvements to prepare for the most exciting season on the Yates County oval in over 10 years.
One of the many changes coming in 2016 is the addition of the Crate Late Models which will be sanctioned by the RUSH Late Model Series. This addition coming as the Crate Late Models grow in popularity in Northest Pennsylvania and across Upstate New York. Amongst the drivers that have entered their hat into the Crate Late Model race at Outlaw include John Waters, the Knowles brothers Jason and Brian and now Crate Sportsman pilot and Outlaw Speedway veteran Frank Guererri Jr.
The Seneca Falls, NY driver known as "The Cranker" is ready to live out a dirt track racing dream on April 22nd, when he will strap into his No. 113 dirt late model. For Guererri, driving a late model is something he has always wanted to do.
"I can't wait to get out there," said Guererri this past weekend during his team's benefit party in Seneca Falls. "I'm really excited and looking forward to it."
"I always wanted to try the BRP (stock stub front end 360) Late Models, but the engines were always pretty expensive for our budget. This opportunity to race one with a Crate just really fell into place for us."
Guererri is one driver who jumped in with both feet when Canandaigua Motorsports Park announced they would make a go of it with the Crate Late Models on a bi-weekly basis. With Canandaigua being the Guererri home track for decades, Frank could still race with family and finally get to drive a car that had long been on his bucket list.
But then, Tyler Siri purchased the former Black Rock Speedway from Dean Hoag and announced Crate Late Models were coming to Dundee weekly at the re-named Outlaw Speedway. That announcement really fired Guererri up as Outlaw is a track that he feels most comfortable at and has won a full-fendered championship at in the past in a Street Stock.
"When we first got the Late Model from Tim McCreadie, we thought we'd run every other week and help the Back Row Gang on our off weeks. Then Tyler comes along and offers the pay that he is weekly, so we're really looking forward to being there every Friday night. Tyler is taking a risk on a new division with a great payout, so we're going there to support him and run as much at Canandaigua as we can."
With Siri being a loyal sponsor to Guererri's efforts in the past, he knows better than most just how much effort and financial support Siri will bring to Outlaw Speedway to make it a destination race track on Friday nights.
"Everything is always first class (with Tyler Siri) and I know he's going to put 100% into this track. When he's paying the money he's paying, the guys need to show up and support the speedway."
Guererri is putting the finishing touches on the Rocket Chassis the team purchased from the former World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion, with opening night at Outlaw just 5 short weeks away.
"Matt Sheppard made us some new skins and we got those hung this past week and it's headed to Pilat Graphics this week to finish things up with the lettering. Throw some shocks and tires on it and we will be ready to go."
As far as engines go, the Crate Late Models have the option to use the GM 604 crate or GM 602 crate with a weight break of 150 pounds.
"We're going to start out the year with the 604 and might eventually get our 602 back and take the weight break, but we could have that as a backup too."
Guererri wishes to thank Superior Crushing, Champion Power Equipment, Blowin' Smoke BBQ, Trout's Auto Recycling and his family, crew and fans for making a racing dream come true in 2016.
