Rich Vleck, DUNDEE, NY, (May 13, 2013)- The sportsman division had an impressive car count and some great racing earlier this month to kick off the 2013 season, but business is sure to be pick up this week with everything amplified.

 

The second event at Black Rock Speedway for 2013 will feature two full-point events for the crate sportsman division.  That means double the laps, double the points and double the payout all up for grabs, likely resulting in double the excitement.  These twin 20-lap features will include heat races and a redraw for the first event, followed by an inversion of 6, 12 or 18 cars for the second feature.  Chris Daugherty was the winner of the sportsman event on opening night and therefore holds the point lead over past champions Donnie Lawson and Brady Fultz.  The last time two sportsman features were held on the same day, last June, it was Daugherty who scored both victories.

 

Friday’s event will also feature the only appearance of the season by the Midstate Vintage Stock Car Club.  This historic organization will be kicking off the 2013 season this Friday, once again providing a trip back in to the past while providing more thrilling racing around the 4/10-mile oval.

 

Bruce Miller was the class of the field in the late model feature on opening night, pulling away from defending champion John Waters.  They will lead another stout field in to this Friday.

 

The IMCA Modified feature was a different story on the first week, with Jake Maynard pulling off a surprising victory in his first appearance at BRS.  It was a wide-open field two weeks ago, and is sure to be this time around.

 

Speaking of stunners, Rich Sharpsteen II fell in to that category on night one as he won in his first race out at his hometown track in his new street stock.  The defending 4-Cylinder champion chased down his buddy Dylan Cecce and hopes to do the same again this week.

 

J.J. Kreidler was also dominant in the lid-lifter, establishing himself as the current standard in the RWD 4-cylinder class.  The FWD 4-cylinder class is a different story as all four competitors had a chance to win late in their feature. Brandon Kinner was a first-time winner in the bandit class, but will have a tall task going back-to-back this weekend.
