Highly-Anticipated Spring Sprint Nationals Set to Roll at Black Rock

Rich Vleck, DUNDEE, NY (May 1, 2011)- For over a decade now, Black Rock Speedway has hosted at least one major sprint car event that can define a season for any driver. In 2011, the first sprint race at BRS is arguably the largest.

The formation of the special Saturday program on May 7 will feature a $2,500-to-win Spring Sprint Nationals 360 sprint car showdown along with the touring BRP CanAm Series and Original Pizza Logs 600 Sprint Tour.  The event was developed as a challenge race between the Patriot Sprint Tour (PST) and United Racing Company (URC), and with the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) providing their sanctioning support, Saturday is certain to be an intense event.

“Since the end of last year I knew an early-season race like this is what would make a great show,” stated BRS Owner/Promoter Dean Hoag.  “With all three sanctioning bodies supporting the event and all the equipment being fresh, there is no reason why this isn’t New York’s largest sprint event of the year.”

Not since the 2006 Fall Nationals have all three major Northeast sanctioning bodies collectively sanctioned the same event at Black Rock.  That was also the last time URC visited Dundee, which was the last time many of their regular drivers hit the 4/10-mile, including defending series champion Curt Michael, who won that night.

With all three sanctioning bodies paying points for this challenge event, all of the teams following one of the tours are sure to be on hand.  Add to it the fact that the purse being impressive from 1st to 24th place and a host of nomadic invaders should be expected in the pit area.

As is the case with many challenge events, an open draw format will be utilized with a simplified passing point format being used to set the A-Main lineup.

This past Friday, Chuck Hebing and Bryan Howland, who each won a sprint show at BRS in 2010, shook down their potent rides in impressive fashion with laps in the low 13 second range, helping to build the anticipation for the high speeds that are sure to be turned.  Interested sprint car teams will also have the opportunity to practice this Friday, if desired.

As mentioned earlier, the addition of the BRP CanAm Late Model Series and Original Pizza Logs 600 Sprint Tour, as well as the 2nd Klein Steel Retail Enduro of the year.  Racing action will kick off at 7:00 P.M.  Don’t forget that at all BRS events in 2011, including this Saturday, kids 16 and under are admitted free with an accompanying adult.  For more information, visit www.BlackRockSpeedway.com.
