ISKY Championship Next For BRP CanAm

St. Catharines, ONT… The ISKY Cams Championship Chase at Black Rock Speedway on Saturday October 25 will close the curtain on the 2008 BRP CanAm Late Model Series. The $1500 to win contest will finalize the season long battle between Jeff Chesebro and Steve Dixon for the Championship, the top 12 in point fund payout, and the hotly contested Rookie of the Year battle between Dan Cobb and Beamer Guzzardi. All in addition to what promises to be simply a great race for the season finale.

Jeff Chesebro, the defending Series Champion, lost to 2008 point lead to Steve Dixon in the Super DIRT Week event. Chesebro finished eighth in that event after a mid-race crash sent him to the pits and quick repairs to his race car. Cheez charged from the rear in his wounded race car to earn the 68 points for his eighth place finish. While Cheez was racing from the back of the pack Steve Dixon was waging a dog fight near the front of the field with hopes of winning the race. He did not win, in fact he finished fourth. However, fourth was worth 85 points and that was enough to overcome the five point deficit he had at the start of the contest. Dixon’s dog fight for what turned out to be a fourth place finish was a crowd pleaser. Scooter Pangrazio, Wayne Robertson, and the three Wonderling brothers were all major players in that battle.

The top 12 drivers in the final point standings will share a point fund expected to exceed $40,000. Of course, the lions share of the dollars and perhaps more important the bragging rights and trophy go to the Champion. For Chesebro the 2008 Championship trophy would stand beside his 2007 championship trophy. Dixon is looking for his first Series Championship and extending a family tradition which his father, Bob, started when he won the BRP CanAm Series Championships in 2003 and 2004.

The shuffling of the order of top twelve continued after the points for the ISKY Cams Late Model Special at Super DIRT Week. In addition to the Chesebro and Dixon change, race winner Glenn Whritenour moved past Jeremy Wonderling for third in the standings. Mikey Wonderling moved up the ladder to seventh and a good run / finish at his home track (Black Rock Speedway) could move him to fifth on the stage at the awards meeting next month. Top 25 point standings are detailed at

Dan Cobb and Beamer Guzzardi have surfaced at the top of the long list of Series rookies competing for the $1000 Absolute Powder Coating Rookie of the Year title. These drivers swapped their order in the Super DIRT Week event when Cobb finished seventh and Guzzardi twelfth. These rookies are capable of their first Series race win and both have had good runs at Black Rock Speedway in the past.
