Friday Night Thunder Gets Underway This Weekend at Black Rock

DUNDEE, NY - The fun has already begun during the 50th Anniversary Season at Black Rock Speedway, but this Friday it gets serious as the point races get underway with a full slate of racing action.

Signs Plus of Kanona and Family Life Ministries will present the standard super six racing divisions that will comprise the Black Rock Speedway regular card in 2008 will all be in competition for their first chance to rack up some much-needed points. For three of the divisions, it will be their first time on the track this season, making this a true season opener.

Steve Paine proved this past Saturday that he will once again be the man to beat at Black Rock, as he dominated the $3,000-to-win modified special. “The Hurricane” is looking to repeat as champion this season, as he did on numerous occasions a decade ago.

Todd Henderson looked to have $5,000 all but in his back pocket two weeks ago when the right rear tire on his sportsman went soft. Henderson will attempt to dethrone defending Champion Brady Fultz, along with the likes of Justin Wright, Daryl Hilkert and Greg Hixson.

The late models make their first start with Jeremy Wonderling and Quinn Sutherland again the premier names of the division. Mikey Wonderling, Larry Knowles and Nathan Daggett also plan to figure prominently in these first two weeks, which will each reward 100 bonus points just for showing up, helping to promote the May 2 BRP CanAm Series Season Opener.

Nathan Peckham’s street stock win two weeks ago was great for the locals in the Labatt Blue Street Stock Division, but he is unlikely to lead the division this year. Frank Chapman, Rich Sharpsteen and Chris Fisher will likely be the ones vying for the first points paying win this weekend.

On Signs Plus’ Night, the 4-cylinders get underway for a highly anticipated season. Another stellar field of cars is expected for 2008.
At the beginning of the night, the Home Necessities Bandits will get the night started off with feature action as the youngsters battle for the first point-paying win of the year.

Also on tap for this Friday’s action, with racing starting at 6:45 p.m., will be the Faster Pastor Race featuring a number of Ministers from around the area.
