Open-Wheeled Racing Galore This Friday at Black Rock

DUNDEE, NY - Two 358-modified features, New York Modified Midgets, plus a number highly-recognizable names from Indy car racing are all open-wheeled highlights on this Friday program; and that doesn’t even include of the fantastic stock car racing, all for just $10, presented by Coryn Farm Supply & Signs Plus.

The New York Modified Midgets were a late addition to this first race of July, but their presence will be noted not just in their 20-lap feature, but also in the names of drivers that will also wheel the 600cc micro sprints over the course of the night.

With the Indy Racing League running just down the road at Watkins Glen International this upcoming weekend, a slew of names expect to travel up Route 14a to Dundee on Friday Night, starting at 6:45 p.m.

Television announcer and part-time racer Jack Arute plans on attending this special event and has talked a number of his buddies into both racing and watching the action at the Yates County Oval.

Some of the best wrenches in auto racing will not just attend this event; they will also be racing the cars that make up the NYMM series, giving them special recognition. Most of these drivers were former racers before hanging up the helmet, but this Friday they get a chance to take a trip down memory lane in an effort to make it to Victory Lane. A number of IRL Racing regulars will be in attendance all will be able to watch their crewmembers race for a change.

World of Outlaw Sprint winner P.J. Chesson and Danica Patrick’s Father, T.J., are some of the featured names that will be joining Arute and a host of others in the special IRL Celebrity event.

As for the standard NYMM program, Zack Morgan will look to repeat his impressive performance on Bully Hill NY Nationals weekend back in May. Morgan is just points back of Dan Miller from Hilton, NY in pursuit of the 2007 Title. Miller has never won at Black Rock.

A week after the Marbles Automotive 358-Modifieds ran for double points in their mid-season Championship events, they embark on what could arguably be the most important night for the remainder of this season with a make-up feature from June 8.

After winning Friday, Steve Paine has a 29-point lead in the Championship Standings, but with his Super DirtCar Series obligations, a new driver will move to the top of the ladder next week. Ray Bliss, Ron Cartwright Jr. and Brian Swarthout are all within one point of each other and will need solid runs in both 25-lap features that they will have to compete in.

Quinn Sutherland, fresh off his win in the Freedom Village USA Super Stock Feature Friday, has joined Jeremy Wonderling and Donnie Smith in the battle for the title. Rich Karlnoski sits fourth in the standings and looks to be the next local to capture his first win of the season.

Rich Sharpsteen I and Frank Chapman Jr., have dominated street stock action over the last month, but it is still Darl Ellis Jr. that sits atop the standings past the cross-flags of the season.

Terry Povoski is beginning to pull away from Chris Leroux and Jared Hill as he looks for his second straight Regional Truck Pro Truck Championship.

Derrick Mills had a big point night, winning the Signs Plus of Kanona 4-Cylinder feature, but with Del Cummings crossing in second he retains the point lead in his No. 03.

Tom Austin Jr. was in the same boat as Cummings, as he crossed second to make it through double-point night. Dylan Cecee is the closest to “Rocker” in the HomeNecessities.com Bandits.

The Hoselton Auto Mall Sportsman have the week off, but they will return on July 13.

Once again, all this racing action is just $10 and starts promptly at 6:45 p.m.
